On a planet of the Solar System, a remote robot explores the territory in search of minerals and signs of life. Light-years away, an old miner searches for traces of his childhood village beneath infinite tons of mineral waste. Artificial mountains that, blast after blast, have shaped a Martian landscape the local tourism campaigns proudly advertise as “Río Tinto, Mars on Earth.”
At the edge of the oldest active mine in the world, miners struggle with their daily lives while astrobiologists search for the deepest secret hidden beneath its mountains: the Dark Biosphere, an unknown form of life that raises a disturbing evolutionary hypothesis. Interweaving science fiction and folklore, Como Todo Mortal excavates the social, historical, biological, and speculative strata of a landscape between Andalusia and Mars. A complex ecosystem that questions the boundaries between exploration and exploitation, faith and progress, and the living and the non-living.
